Welcome back guys, so in today’s domestic god video, I’m going to offer you various substitutes for common recipe ingredients. You may have invited a girl over to cook a meal for her, which by the way is a great idea as women really appreciate the effort and find a guy that can cook sexy.

But you may have been busy man-scaping or cleaning up the house before she arrived that you left the meal prep a bit late and you’ve just realized that you are missing some key ingredients.

When this happens, it’s not like you can just ask your date to swing by the supermarket and grab you a few ingredients on her way to your place, or ask her to entertain herself whilst you duck off to the shops.

But you may actually have some other ingredients in the house which will effectively substitute for the missing ingredients so let’s take a look at some of these.

  • If you have run out of bread crumbs, 1 cup of crushed crackers or I cup of ground oats can replace I cup of bread crumbs.
  • If you have run out of chicken broth, 1 cup of beer can replace 1 cup of chicken broth.
  • If you need to make chicken or beef broth but you don’t have beef or chicken stock or any stock cubes, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce plus 1 cup of water will replace 1 cup of chicken or beef stock.
  • If you have run out of cream, you can add 1 tablespoon of butter to slightly less than 1 cup of milk.
  • If you have run out of eggs then the following ingredients could substitute for 1 whole egg. Combine half a banana mashed together with ½ a teaspoon of baking powder, or 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise or 1 tablespoon of powdered flax seed soaked in 3 tablespoons of water.
  • If you need 1 cup of honey, you ca substitute this with 1 and ¼ cups of white sugar and a 1/3 a cup of water or 1 cup of corn syrup.
  • If you need 1 teaspoon of lemon juice but don’t have any, you can substitute with ½ a teaspoon of vinegar or 1 teaspoon of white wine or 1 teaspoon of lime juice.
  • If you need 1 cup of mayonnaise but don’t have any, you can replace with 1 cup of sour cream or 1 cup of plain yoghurt
  • If you’re cooking an Asian inspired meal but don’t have any soy sauce, ½ a cup of soy sauce ca be replaced by adding 4 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce to 1 tablespoon of water.
  • If you need 30 grams of cooking chocolate but have run out, you can combine 3 tablespoons of cocoa with I tablespoon of butter, margarine or vegetable oil.

So there we have it, a solid list of substitutes for common recipe ingredients. Maybe one day these suggestions will rescue a meal that you need to make in the future to save that date, your hunger pains or your child’s food requests.
